HISTORY
The Cuba Academic Alliance was formed in May 2004,
at an informal gathering of study abroad counselors, students and providers at NAFSA’s
annual meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. The gathering was in response to new rules
promulgated by the U.S. State Department that effectively put an end to study abroad
programs on the island. Since then, representatives of more than 80 academic institutions
have joined this loose organization, in an effort to share information and encourage a
lifting of these unnecessary restrictions on academic freedoms. |
